When a young man inherits his father’s lucrative business, he cheats the system to set up three of his college friends with jobs. Classic silent film by the great OZU Yasujiro from a script by his frequent collaborator NODA Kôgo. A great example of the gradual shift in OZU’s career: it starts off as one of his many student comedies, but ends as a layered melodrama.
