World renowned filmmaker KAWASE Naomi (The Mourning Forest, Still the Water) returns to the festival with this intriguing tale about a French journalist, played by Juliette BINOCHE, who travels to the mountains of Nara in search of a rare medicinal herb called ‘vision’. According to legend it appears only once every 997 years and it can resolve all spiritual anguish and weaknesses in human beings. Visual poetry meant for the big screen.

About the Director
KAWASE Naomi is an internationally renowned director and writer. In 1997, she became the youngest ever recipient of the Caméra d’Or award for best first feature film at the Cannes Film Festival with Suzaku. In 2007, The Mourning Forest was awarded the Grand Prix at Cannes. In 2011, Hanezu premiered in competition at Cannes. In 2014, Still the Water competed for the Palme d’Or. In 2016, KAWASE was elected President of the Jury for the Cinéfondation programme.
