Ohzan and Ramazan are two young Kurdish refugees. They’ve lived in Japan for most of their lives, but live in limbo because they can’t get a visa. Despite their dreams for the future, they can’t work or study, and are always in danger of being detained. A beautiful, moving documentary showing the issues immigrants face in Japan, but also an intimate portrait of these young men.
Ohzan en Ramazan zijn twee jonge Koerdische vluchtelingen. Ze leven al het grootste deel van hun leven in Japan, maar kunnen geen visa krijgen en daardoor geen kant op. Ondanks hun toekomstdromen, kunnen ze niet werken of studeren, en er is altijd een gevaar dat ze opgesloten worden. Een mooie, ontroerende documentaire, waarin de problemen van immigranten in Japan worden blootgelegd. Maar tegelijk ook een intiem portret van de levens van deze twee jongemannen.
HYUGA Fumiari 日向史有 joined the independent television production company Documentary Japan in 2006 and shot several short documentaries, including works on the military draft in Ukraine and Syrian refugees in Japan. His 2017 short film Tokyo Kurds (2017) won the Excellence Award at the Tokyo Docs Short Documentary Showcase. Fumiari has now expanded his short film into a documentary feature.
