Boatman Toichi silently paddles his ferry across the river. He lives in a modest cabin along the riverside, where a bridge is being built. The stillness of Toichi’s life is balanced by the constant movement of the river itself. And just like the river, society keeps moving on. An exquisitely shot meditation on the impact of changing times. A visual tour de force by cinematographer Christopher Doyle.
