MIIKE Takashi 三池崇史 hardly needs an introduction. He is one of the best known Japanese filmmakers of the last three decades. He is also one of the most prolific directors in the world, directing over a hundred films in thirty-one years. MIIKE started out making television films and direct-to-video releases, and then moved on to theatrically released films, soon gaining lots of attention with the infamous Shinjuku Triad Society in 1995. Around the turn of the century his fame skyrocketed worldwide, thanks to films such as Audition, Dead or Alive and Ichii the Killer. It’s been a rollercoaster of a career since with films in every possible genre and style, although they’re almost always recognizably MIIKE. Sometimes he has released no less than eight films in one year. Whenever a new film by him is released, rest assured he’s already making or even finishing the next one.
