In 1986, Hisada is ten years old, living with his loving parents and younger brother in Nagasaki. One summer day, he goes to Boomerang Island to see dolphins with Takemoto, a boy who is bullied and shunned by his classmates. While their friendship grows, the two boys get into a lot of trouble and adventure. A whimsical, funny and touching coming-of-age drama with piquant details that cut through the haze of nostalgia.

KANAZAWA Tomoki 金沢知樹 started out as a comedian. In the early 2000s, he began writing screenplays for stage productions and variety shows. In 2014, he developed the script for the short film Half and Half 半分の世界 directed by SAITO Takumi 斎藤工. The film was nominated for an International Emmy award. SABAKAN is KANAZAWA’s directorial debut.
