My Father, the Bride

After the death of her mother, Tohka returns to the remote island of her youth to attend the second memorial service. She is welcomed by her father, but to her shock he is wearing her mother’s clothes. Soon after, he announces that he will marry a man named Kazuo. Heartwarming comedy about acceptance and being whoever you want to be.

Na de dood van haar moeder keert Tohka terug naar het afgelegen eiland waar ze is opgegroeid om er de tweede herdenkingsdienst bij te wonen. Haar vader verwelkomt haar, maar tot Tohka’s grote schrik draagt hij haar moeders kleren. Snel daarna kondigt hij aan dat hij gaat trouwen met een man genaamd Kazuo. Een hartverwarmende komedie over acceptatie en zijn wie je wil zijn.

About the Director

FUKUDA Momoko is a film director and writer. She studied film at the Japan Academy of Moving Images. Her graduation film Goodbye Mother (2013) was selected for screening at several festivals. In 2015, she participated in the New Directions in Japanese Cinema (NDJC) project for young filmmakers. The resulting short film, Dad’s Wedding, received considerable acclaim. A novelist and winner of the Subaru Literary Prize, FUKUDA is easily one of Japan’s most promising artists.
