Kiryu Kaoru is a lonely robot engineer. Ever since childhood, he felt he lived more like a robot than a man. To counteract his anxieties, he has devoted his life to developing his own android as another version of himself. One day, his half-brother shows up in the abandoned building he calls home. A slightly surreal, strange sci-fi drama with an eerie atmosphere and sumptuous gothic production design.
Kiryu Kaoru is een eenzame robottechnicus. Vanaf zijn jeugd voelt hij zich al meer robot dan mens. SAKAMOTO Junji (阪本順治)started his career as an assistant to director ISHII Sogo, whose influence shows in SAKAMOTO’s own early films. He made his debut in 1989 with Dotsuitarunen, which won him the Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Award. In 2001, SAKAMOTO won the 24th Japan Academy Director of the Year prize for Face. His films often deal with controversial issues such as child trafficking or postwar politics in Japan.
