To avoid finishing last at the annual karaoke party and the risk of a humiliating punishment by his boss, yakuza NARITA Kyoji asks the help of OKA Satomi, the leader of a chorus club at the local high school. He convinces Satomi to give him singing lessons at a nearby karaoke spot. However, teaching the tone-deaf, off-key gangster to sing is easier said than done in this highly entertaining musical comedy filled with karaoke.
Om te voorkomen dat hij een vernederende straf krijgt, moet gangster Narita Kyoji ervoor zorgen dat hij niet als laatste eindigt in het jaarlijkse karaoke-feestje van zijn baas. Daarvoor roept hij de hulp in van Oka Satomi, zanger in het koor van de plaatselijke middelbare school. Hij overtuigt de jonge Satomi om hem zangles te geven in een nabijgelegen karaoketent. Maar lesgeven aan de toondove en vals zingende Narita blijkt makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan in deze uiterst vermakelijke muzikale komedie boordevol karaoke.
YAMASHITA Nobuhiro 山下敦弘 is a graduate of Osaka University of Arts. His graduation film, Hazy Life, earned him his first award at the 2000 Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival. He has been recognized internationally with works screened at Busan International Film Festival, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and Tokyo International Film Festival. His first popular success came with Linda Linda Linda in 2005. Since then he has built a substantial reputation for himself in Japanese cinema. YAMASHITA has been on a creative roll in the past year or two. CAMERA JAPAN 2024 will present not one but five (5!) of his films.
