Kamagasaki is one of the poorest neighbourhoods of Osaka where people without job security or a living wage often end up living in desperate circumstances leading to homelessness, crime, and food kitchens. Vividly shot on 16 mm with the involvement of the inhabitants of Kamagasaki, this film is about a diverse array of characters who get in over their heads when they try to recover a prized heirloom stolen from a a local gang.
Kamagasaki is een van de armste wijken van Osaka, en bewoners zonder een vaste baan of regelmatig inkomen leven er vaak onder erbarmelijke omstandigheden, met dakloosheid, gaarkeukens en misdaad tot gevolg. Deze bijzondere film, gedraaid op 16mm en opgenomen in Kamagasaki in samenwerking met de bewoners, draait om een lokale bende waarvan een erfstuk wordt gestolen, waarna talloze kleurrijke figuren alles op alles zetten om het terug te krijgen.
About the Director
SATO Leo trained with the documentary film maker SATO Makoto, whose work has been a strong influence. SATO Leo made his first feature documentary, Nagai Park Elegy, in 2009. His first fictional film, The Kamagasaki Cauldron War, was completed over a period of five years.
