When his parents move to a small town, Yura is forced to enroll at a Christian school, a religion he doesn’t understand. Unable to fit in with his peers, Yura loses himself in daydreams in which a tiny Jesus appears, helping him work through his life struggles, religion and death. A magic realist fable that was awarded the Best New Director prize at the prestigious San Sebastian Festival.

Als Yura samen met zijn ouders naar een klein dorp verhuist wordt hij gedwongen naar een christelijke school te gaan, ook al weet hij niets van het christendom af. Vrienden maken lukt niet, waardoor hij zich langzaam maar zeker verliest in bizarre dagdromen. Daarin verschijnt een miniatuur Jezus aan hem, die hem helpt met talloze problemen. Magisch-realistisch sprookje dat op het prestigieuze filmfestival van San Sebastian bekroond werd met de prijs voor Beste Nieuwe Regisseur.

About the Director

OKUYAMA Hiroshi is a filmmaker, cinematographer, screenwriter and editor. He first received critical acclaim in 2014 when his music video GRADUATION PARTY!!!!! premiered at the Kyoto International Film Festival. In 2018, Tokyo 21st October was selected for the Shorts Shorts Film Festival & Asia and for the Busan International Film Festival. In 2018, OKUYAMA became the youngest ever winner of the San Sebastian International Film Festival New Director Award with JESUS, his first feature film.
