A decade after a tsunami hit their island, two impoverished brothers live a seemingly peaceful life in Tohoku. Their lives are turned upside down when a famous female manga artist shows up on their doorstep and decides to move in with them. This unusual living arrangement slowly brings all of their desires and traumas to the surface. A funny, touching and subtle dramedy on adversity, autonomy and identity.
Twee arme broers leven een schijnbaar vredig leventje op een eiland in Tohoku, een decennium nadat een tsunami toesloeg. Hun levens worden op de kop gezet wanneer een beroemde mangamaakster voor hun deur verschijnt en besluit bij hen in te trekken. Deze ongebruikelijke woonsituatie brengt langzaamaan al hun verlangens en trauma’s boven. Een grappige, ontroerende en subtiel gelaagde dramedy over tegenslag, zelfstandigheid en identiteit.
SHOJI Teruaki 庄司輝秋 completed a degree in sculpture at Tokyo Zokei University and worked for the commercial production company Rooftop. In 2007, he made his first short film Line, which won an award at the 2009 Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia. Hoyaman is his feature-length debut.
