Out of the blue, Shun is dumped by his boyfriend Nagisa after a brief but passionate relationship. Years go by, and suddenly Nagisa turns up together with his six-year-old daughter on Shun’s doorstep in search of a place to stay. Though reluctant, Shun takes both of them in. He has been able to hide his sexual orientation from the small countryside village where he has lived for a long time, but this sudden turn of events might change everything. A tender film about acceptance and forgiveness.
Na een kortstondige relatie wordt Shun uit het niets door zijn vriend Nagisa gedumpt. Vele jaren gaan voorbij tot de twee elkaar weer treffen: plots staat Nagisa met zijn zesjarige dochter bij Shun op de stoep. Met enige tegenzin neemt Shun het onaangekondigde tweetal in huis, bang dat zijn diep verborgen seksuele geaardheid aan het daglicht komt en hem een buitenbeentje maakt in het kleine plattelandsdorp waar hij woont. Een tedere film over acceptatie en vergevingsgezindheid.

IMAIZUMI Rikiya is a leading director of romance films in Japanese cinema today. His films include Sad Tea (2013) and Their Distance (2015). The latter premiered at the 28th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2015. In 2018, Just Only Love was selected for the Competition section at the 31st TIFF.
