A rare look at 1400 years of Buddhist woodcarving tradition and the struggle to preserve its legacy in a rapidly changing Japan. SEKI Yujiro takes us on a journey through a culture where the skills to create great works of art are still taught through traditional master-apprentice relationships. From the monklike life of a grand master to the harsh teaching methods his apprentice uses to pass on the skills to novices. If this does not put you off, be sure to check out the kumiko woodcarving workshop! Tickets will sell out fast!
