August, 1918. While their husbands are far away trying to catch fish, the women of a coastal village are unable to feed their families due to the high costs of rice. As the prices keep rising, a number of village women decide that enough is enough, and start the infamous rice riots that spread across the nation. Rousing, entertaining and at times comedic historical drama from the director of the Samurai Hustle franchise.

MOTOKI Katsuhide 本木克英 is a film director and producer. In 1987 he started working as assistant director at Shochiku Company, Limited, one of Japan’s four largest film studios. In 1993, he had the chance to study in the United States for a year. MOTOKI directed films and television dramas for Shochiku from 1998 until he resigned in 2017. He is currently working freelance.
