Deze persoonlijke en diepgaande documentaire gaat over een geplande ontruiming van het Nagai Park in Osaka, waar veel daklozen in hun zelfgemaakte tenten leven. We volgen hun strijd door middel van beelden van hun woonplaats en discussies met medestanders die opkomen voor de daklozen. De daklozen proberen de publieke opinie op hun hand te krijgen met een eigen gemaakt theaterstuk, maar staan daarbij huiverig tegenover inmenging van buitenstaanders, hoe goedgezind deze hun ook zijn. Dit levert spanning op, omdat ze goed weten dat ze eigenlijk ook niet zonder deze mensen kunnen als ze in "hun park" willen kunnen blijven wonen.

This documentary shows how Osaka"s homeless, living in tents in Nagai Park, fight the decision of being evicted from their quarters. We follow their struggle through their daily lives around their tents and the discussions with supporters of the cause of the Osaka-homeless. The group prepares a theatre play to convince the authorities and residents, but is afraid of accepting help from others, however well-meant. The result is an interesting movie about the residents of Nagai Park, and we follow them not only in their hardships, but also in the warmth of their friendships.

Eiko en Toshiko, de "Robin Sisters", zijn een identieke tweeling, die hun hele leven samen gezongen hebben in het Japanse folk-circuit. Ze kennen elkaar door en door en hebben samen veel doorgemaakt. Ze zijn vlak voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog geboren, opgegroeid in extreme armoe en moesten het geld verdienen dat een vader met tubercolose en een werkloze moeder niet bij elkaar konden krijgen. Deze documentaire volgt hun carrière van het prille begin in het kleine mijnwerkersstadje Kushiro tot aan hun grote successen.

Eiko and Toshiko, the "Robin Sisters", are identical twins who have spent their lives singing together on the Japanese Folk Circuit. Born just before World War II, their childhood was one of extreme poverty and they began singing in restaurants at the age of 11 to avoid starvation when their father contracted tuberculosis and their mother could not find gainful employment. They have stuck with their music through thick and thin. This documentary follows their career from humble beginnings in the coal town of Kushiro to national chart success and beyond with their "Songs of hope for a better tomorrow".

Deze documentaire geeft een blik op een aantal levens van buitenlanders in Tokio. Wat trekt deze buitenstaanders naar deze metropool? Of het nu werk, liefde of allebei is dat ze in deze stad houdt, ze hebben allemaal één ding gemeen: ze worden allemaal gezien als de ‘gaijin’, aliens. De noties van ‘binnen’ en ‘buiten’ in familie en maatschappij zijn sterk in de Japanse psyche, dus is het mogelijk voor buitenlanders om volledig geaccepteerd te worden en te integreren in een wereld waar geslotenheid tegen vreemdelingen de norm is? Een buitenlander laat het ons zien.

This short documentary shows a glimpse of a few lives of foreigners in Tokyo. What attracts these people to the metropolis? Be it work, love or both what keeps them in this city, they all have one thing in common: they are called ’gaijin’, aliens. Notions of ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ within families and companies are strong in the Japanese, so is it possible for foreigners to be fully accepted and integrated in a society where having reservations about strangers is the archetype? A foreigner will show us.
